Chelsea and Tottenham want Piero Hincapie and Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth claims Bayer Leverkusen will sell for around €30million (£26million).

Sheth has taken to Twitter to offer an update on Hincapie’s future at Leverkusen.

Sheth claims Chelsea are viewing Hincapie as a potential alternative target to RB Leipzig sensation Josko Gvardiol.

It seems clear that Graham Potter and co want to sign a left-sided centre back, with Marc Cucurella hardly suited to that role.

Gvardiol is the top target but he will not only cost a huge sum of money but will have many other suitors.

That means Chelsea would be wise to have alternative targets in mind and Hincapie appears to be one of them, coming in at a much lower cost.

Leverkusen seem willing to deal Hincapie for £26million, with Gvardiol no doubt costing at least twice that figure.

Tottenham may join Chelsea in viewing Hincapie as Gvardiol alternative

This will be of interest to Tottenham Hotspur, who have also been linked with both defenders.

Tuttomercatoweb reported in November that Tottenham would be looking for Ivan Perisic to convince Gvardiol to join them in 2023.

It seems a little unlikely that Tottenham will be able to pull off that deal but their need for a left-sided centre back is clear.

Clement Lenglet is only on loan from Barcelona and Ben Davies may not be seen as the long-term solution there.

Gvardiol would be perfect but The Mirror noted recently that Tottenham have been keeping close tabs on Hincapie ahead of a possible bid.

The Ecuadorian defender is quick and comfortable on the ball, offering the progression from the back that Tottenham may seek.

Hincapie can still work on his defending, as seen at the World Cup, but he is likely to make a big move at some stage.

Tottenham probably feel a similar way to Chelsea; Hincapie is another talented, young, left-sided centre back who can be viewed as a backup target behind Gvardiol.

The fear for Tottenham will be missing out on both Gvardiol and Hincapie, with quality left-sided defenders with huge potential hard to come by.
