Chelsea will reportedly rival Arsenal this summer for VfL Wolfsburg defender Ridle Baku, with both London clubs interested in signing the German international.

According to Bild, the 25-year-old fullback is a target for both Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and the Blues, with the two Premier League giants keen to bolster their options in the right-back position this summer, with Baku now emerging as a target.

A defender known for his blistering speed, the Bundesliga star is tipped to leave Wolfsburg this summer having starred for the German club for the past three seasons. Though as per the report, the Bundesliga side won’t allow Baku to leave for cheap.

With five goals this season, Baku is an attacking fullback in it’s purest form, with the defender noted for his darting runs down the wing and for getting in the right areas when in the final third. And for Arsenal and Chelsea, it makes sense why the English clubs are chasing the German.

Indeed, the defender has qualities that could make him quite the weapon in the Premier League, and with Arsenal and Chelsea looking into expanding their right-back options this summer, signing Baku could be an excellent option in the coming months.

However, for Arsenal, the north Londoners could have the advantage in signing Baku over Chelsea, with the Gunners’ need for another right-back more apparent than the Blues, with Arteta’s side also a more appealing option this summer than the Stamford Bridge giants.

Arsenal have enjoyed an unprecedented season that could see Arteta lift the Premier League title. Yet regardless of what happens, many top players in Europe will want a move to the north London side over the likes of Chelsea, including Baku.

With Cedric Soares set to leave and Takehiro Tomiyasu injury-prone, Baku could be an outstanding backup option for Ben White in the right-back position as well as a player who can change Arsenal’s entire system based on his dynamic style of playing.
