Chelsea to axe Batshuayi – Could he be Everton’s new Lukaku?

Chelsea are ready to replace Michy Batshuayi so should Everton swoop having had success with Romelu Lukaku in a similar situation?

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte appears to have finally lost patience with Michy Batshuayi following his poor performance during the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Batshuayi was taken off in the 57th minute at Selhurst Park to be replaced by Pedro and the striker could not hide his frustration after yet another game in which he failed to find the net.

The 23-year-old is yet to score a goal during five outings in the Premier League this season and the Telegraph reports that Conte is looking for a replacement for the forward in the January transfer window.

If he succeeds then Batshuayi will be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge on loan and despite his difficulties this season, perhaps Everton should renew their interest – as reported by the Liverpool Echo in August.

After all, the Toffees have had great success when recruiting forwards on temporary deals from the Blues in the past, with Romelu Lukaku joining on loan for the 2013/14 season and scoring 15 league goals in 33 games before making the move permanent the following the summer.

This is not to claim Batshuayi is at the same level as Lukaku, with the two Belgians actually the same age but poles apart in terms of career achievements to date, but the former has had little chance to prove himself in West London and arguably needs regular game time to rediscover the form that lead to his £33m (BBC) move to England from Marseille in 2016.

Not only that but the Merseysiders are in desperate need of support in attack having sold the aforementioned Lukaku to Manchester United in the close season and having scored just five league goals in eight fixtures since – only bottom two Crystal Palace and Bournemouth have fewer.
