Chelsea have sacked Thomas Tuchel and Tottenham Hotspur fans may fear Mauricio Pochettino heading to West London to take over.

The Blues have made an inauspicious start to the season and Tuchel has now paid the price with his job.

Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb proved to be the end for Tuchel, who was relieved of his duties as Chelsea boss this morning.

It’s not even 18 months since Tuchel guided Chelsea to a stunning Champions League final win over Manchester City.

Yet after just three wins from six to start the new Premier League season, including defeats at Leeds United and Southampton, Tuchel has gone.

New owner Todd Boehly hasn’t wasted any time in stamping his authority and Chelsea and this next decision is enormous.

Tuchel’s exit is being viewed as pretty hasty, so Boehly has to get a quality replacement on board for the future.

A number of names have been suggested already, and Tottenham supporters may be fearing the worst.

When you look at big-name, available manager, your eyes are immediately drawn to Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino has been out of work since the end of last season, leaving Paris Saint-Germain after winning the Ligue 1 title.

The Argentinian – who ironically landed the PSG job as a replacement for Tuchel in 2020 – is now looking for a new role and you can understand why Chelsea would be keen.

Pochettino has Premier League experience, guided Tottenham to the Champions League final and managed big personalities as PSG won the league title last season.

Those are surely aspects that Boehly and co are seeking in a new manager and Chelsea – admittedly with different decision-makers at the time – contacted Pochettino about a move to Stamford Bridge in 2020.

Sky Sports already claim that Chelsea are discussing a move for Pochettino, and this is just a nightmare scenario for Tottenham fans.

Pochettino took over at Tottenham in 2014 and quite frankly worked wonders before his 2019 exits.

Two title challenges and a Champions League final appearances were successes that few could have dreamt of before Pochettino’s arrival.

His development of players was outstanding and Pochettino has been linked with a return to Tottenham on multiple occasions, including just a matter of months ago in case Antonio Conte moved on.

There feels like a sense of unfinished business for Pochettino at Tottenham and many Spurs fans still absolutely adore him.

It would be bad enough to see Pochettino return to the Premier League with another club and go up against Tottenham.

But seeing Pochettino manage Chelsea? That would sting beyond belief for many Tottenham fans given the rivalry with the Blues.

Tottenham fans will be hoping and praying that Chelsea go with somebody else as their new manager, keeping Pochettino away from a move to West London after achieving so much in the north of the capital.
