Relegation back to the Sky Bet Championship has already been confirmed for Middlesbrough, but some of their players will be hoping the Premier League adventure doesn’t end there for them.

There have been enough glimpses from these three Boro stars to suggest that they can cut it at the top level of English football and they may well be snapped up over the summer. Loan players have not been included.

Marten de Roon

Signed from Atalanta last summer, De Roon is the club’s second highest scorer behind Alvaro Negredo with four goals and received high praise from Jose Mourinho following Manchester United’s 3-1 win at the Riverside.

The 25-year-old himself sees Goodison Park as a potential destination, however, quoted by the Sun as saying: “I do think that I can develop myself to the level needed to play for a club like Everton.”

Middlesbrough’s position as the division’s lowest scorers is what cost them dear in 2016/17, but in defence they have been resolute with only the top nine having conceded fewer than them.

Gibson has been a key part of that and the centre-back has even been touted as a future England player, while the Mirror claim both Chelsea and Liverpool are interested in signing him.

After joining Boro from Aston Villa last summer this is now unfortunately back-to-back relegation for Traore, but his age and raw talent have caught a few eyes.

Still only 21-years-old, the winger learned his trade at Barcelona and although his output of one assist and no goals this campaign needs improving on, according to Sky Sports Chelsea are considering a move for the youngster.
