Chelsea have now struck a deal to sign Monaco defender Axel Disasi amid claims he has agreed terms with Newcastle United.

Axel Disasi is now on the verge of leaving Monaco for Chelsea after a £38million deal was agreed.

That is according to a report from The Athletic, who claim that Chelsea have now agreed a deal in principle for Disasi.

It’s stated that Chelsea now agreed to pay around €45million (£38million) to sign Disasi.

Chelsea have been desperate to sign a new centre back ever since Wesley Fofana suffered a season-ruining injury.

The Blues wanted to land a right-footed defender with Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile already options on the left.

Disasi will give Chelsea that option and could now join Badiashile in West London having played together at Monaco.

This is a nice profit for Monaco, who bought Disasi for just €13million (£11million) back in 2020 having impressed with Stade De Reims.

The deal should be done soon enough with Chelsea now closing in on adding another French centre back.

Newcastle United set to miss out on Axel Disasi

Disasi will finally move to the Premier League after plenty of speculation surrounding a potential switch.

Reports from the Daily Mail last week suggested that West Ham were having internal disagreements over a potential move for Disasi.

David Moyes wants UK-based players whereas Tim Steidten wants European players, with West Ham now seemingly set to miss out.

Newcastle United will miss out too.

Football Transfers suggested earlier in July that Disasi had agreed personal terms wit the Magpies ahead of a potential move.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg also claimed that Newcastle were really pushing to sign Disasi.

The Magpies have been pipped by Chelsea though, meaning Eddie Howe may need to look elsewhere if he wants another centre back.
