Chelsea forward Cole Palmer talked about his transfer in the summer and explained how he signed a permanent deal at Stamford Bridge.

Despite scoring crucial goals for Manchester City against Arsenal and Sevilla at the start of the season, Palmer looked to have earned his place in Pep Guardiola‘s side.

However, the young Englishman completed a surprising £40 million move to rivals Chelsea signing a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

With 10 goals and seven assists in all competitions so far, the 21-year-old has proved to be a bargain among other high-profile signings.

Speaking on his move, Palmer disclosed that he initially wanted to stay at Manchester City but the European champions refused to let him depart on a temporary basis.

“My thing was to never leave City,” Palmer told Sky Sports. “That was not my intention. I wanted to go on loan for a year, come back and be ready for the first team.

“But they said I couldn’t go on loan, either stay or you get sold. So then, Chelsea rang me. I said I wanted to go to Chelsea and I’m really happy to be here. I’m very glad I made the decision to come here.”

After being recently compared to World Cup winner Angel Di Maria by Mauricio Pochettino, Palmer believes there is still room for improvement and highlighted one special quality about his current manager.

“Obviously, it’s high praise, but I’m a long way away from it. I’ve noticed about him that with everyone he’s the same, the cooks, the physios, us [the players].

“He asks you questions and he’s genuinely interested. It’s brilliant,” he added.

Palmer making the right choice

After impressing in the first half of the season, it seems Palmer has finally kicked on and cemented his place in Pochettino’s lineup.

With Christopher Nkunku recently returning from injury, Chelsea could rely on the attacking duo to turn their form around as they are currently 10th in the league table.

They will need to, because there is a little pressure building on Pochettino, especially after their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg defeat to Middlesbrough.
