Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle is looking forward to featuring for his country Germany at the World Cup in Brazil.
Germany international forward Andre Schurrle is looking forward to kicking off their 2014 World Cup campaign on Monday.
Die Mannschaft are one of the favourites to win football’s biggest tournament in Brazil this summer.
Joachim Low’s side have been drawn against Portugal, Ghana and the USA in Group G. It is a very tough group, and one that will force the German players to be on top of their game all the time.
The three-time world champions will begin their campaign against Portugal at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador on Monday. The game promises to be one of the most exciting and open in the tournament, as the Seleccao are an attacking side with a certain Cristiano Ronaldo in their ranks.
The German national team have already arrived in Salvador to prepare for the contest and one of their key players, Schurrle, cannot wait to get started.
The 23-year-old Chelsea forward took to social networking site Twitter to post the following message:
Schurrle joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen last summer and had an overall good debut season in the Premier League in 2013-14, as demonstrated by his stats below:
| Team | Goals | Goal Assist | Apps | Mins | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| André Schürrle | Chelsea | 8 | 2 | 30 | 1,326 |
There have been concerns that Germany have just one recognised centre-forward in Miroslav Klose at the World Cup, but Schurrle has played up front under Blues manager Jose Mourinho this past campaign and could be deployed in a similar role by Low in Brazil.
Germany have a number of top-class players, but they will need to make a positive start against Portugal to maintain their chances of World Cup triumph.
