Aloisio Pires, a former Barcelona player and Porto coach believes David Luiz is perfect for Barcelona.
This week saw the inevitable happen – as the 14-month transfer ban handed down by FIFA to Spanish giants Barcelona was temporarily put on hold as the Catalan outfit lodged an appeal against the decision.
That leaves Barca free to bring in the likes of Alen Halilovic and Marc Andre ter Stegen – two deals already believed to be done.
But it has also seen an influx in rumours suggesting several players could be on their way to the Nou Camp this summer – one of which is David Luiz.
The Chelsea defender has been used sparsely by Jose Mourinho in comparison to under Rafa Benitez last term – but he fits the mould of a perfect Barca defender.
They are after a new central defender with veteran Carles Puyol coming to the end of his career – and Luiz, who is in line to captain Brazil at a home World Cup this summer, has emerged as a number one option.
And one man who thinks it is the perfect move happens to have links to both the Blues and the Blaugrana.
Aloisio Pires was a former Brazilian international defender who played for Barcelona between 1988 and 1990 – winning the UEFA Cup Winners Cup in 1989.
After that he headed to Portugal and played with FC Porto – interestingly enough he went on to work with the Portuguese club after his retirement in 2001 – and was part of the back-room staff for Mourinho as they won the UEFA Champions League in 2004.
But he feels that Luiz should leave his old boss behind and head to Barca:
“David Luiz has a lot of quality, is a central [defender] with very important features, is strong, is very good, knows how to play and has a lot of heart. Not only is the club interested in him, there are other important clubs, he is a good player for the club has on its staff. David Luiz is a player for the club.”
