Edouard Mendy has told the Evening Standard that Liverpool selling Sadio Mane could have a “huge impact” on the Merseyside outfit next season. Mane has left Liverpool to join German champions Bayern Munich.
Mane, 30, moved to Germany having entered the final year of his contract at Anfield. It comes after playing 269 times for the Reds in all competitions. During that time, he had a hand in 168 goals – scoring 120 and creating 48.
Liverpool have brought in two big-name attackers of late. The brilliant Luis Diaz, who has quickly taken to life in the Premier League. Darwin Nunez has also joined the Reds from Portuguese football, after starring for Benfica.

While on tour with Chelsea in the United States, Mendy spoke about his Senegal teammate’s move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich. He believes his departure could prove to have a detrimental effect on the Reds next season.
“It is a big loss for the Premier League in terms of quality. He’s also a big loss [to Liverpool] because of his quality, the impact he makes and also, for the young players. When you lose someone like this it can have a huge impact.”
Mendy: Liverpool selling Mane could have a huge impact
It is an enormous loss for Liverpool. While Diaz is a superb replacement, Nunez has struggled since joining the Reds for a club-record fee – albeit in pre-season. That might be a quick judgement, but time will tell.
Certainly, it will take Nunez time to match the level and output of Mane. With Manchester City signing Erling Haaland, a player ready to take on the Premier League, and both Chelsea and Spurs doing well, Liverpool might fall initially.
