The Croatian goalkeeper has little chance of a Chelsea breakthrough.
Matej Delac – Chelsea warms up
West Ham United will be looking to make improvements this summer, as Slaven Bilic aims to improve the team after an indifferent season.
One area where they need to improve is on goal.
Adrian’s previous good form disappeared this season and Darren Randolph, his replacement, is struggling to be at the level needed to be a success in the Premier League.
Once again West Ham are being linked with plenty of big names, perhaps unrealistically.
But there is a goalkeeper at Chelsea, who Bilic knows well, who would love the opportunity to thrive at West Ham.
Matej Delac joined Chelsea from Inter Zapresic in 2010 but has since spent nine separate spells out on loan from the club. This season has perhaps been his best yet, becoming the number one stopper at Belgian top-flight side Excelsior Mouscron.
Chelsea’s Matej Delac plays with the mascot at half time
Bilic called up Delac to the Croatia senior squad in August 2009 for games v Belarus and England. In doing so Delac, who had only recently turned 17, became the youngest ever player called up to the Croatian senior side.
The 24-year-old looks unlikely to have a long-term future at Chelsea, but clearly has the talent to play at this level.
West Ham would be able to get him on the cheap if they wanted him this summer and could be signing a diamond to polish in the process.
