Chelsea have reportedly scouted Atletico Madrid and Portugal superstar Joao Felix, who has recently been offered out to Arsenal as Premier League clubs are lining up to sign the attacker.

According to Football London, the Blues have been keeping an eye on the 23-year-old forward ahead of the January transfer window, though Chelsea are not expected to launch a bid to sign Felix just yet as Graham Potter looks to monitor the attacker’s situation.

90min recently reported that Felix had been offered out to Arsenal as well as the Blues themselves, with Atletico eager to offload the former Benfica wonderkid in January as the La Liga side look to raise funds in the winter market and to cut ties with the Portuguese star.

Despite arriving in 2019 for a club-record fee of £113m, Felix’s time with Atletico has been regarded by many as a disaster, with the forward yet to really get going in the Spanish capital or to emulate the form that made the youngster once one of football’s most prized players.

And now, Chelsea stand with a good chance of signing Felix in January. As per Football London, injury to Armando Broja will likely see the Blues go all out in the market for a striker, and whilst the Atletico outcast isn’t a natural in the position, the forward could suit the role for Potter.

Lauded as ‘dangerous’ by Unai Emery, Felix heading to west London would be an interesting move for the attacker. And whilst Arsenal have been heavily linked with the 23-year-old, Mikel Arteta will likely thank the heavens if the Basque manager misses out on the forward.

Felix’s departure of Atletico will be one of the biggest transfers of the January transfer window, and for Arsenal, Chelsea signing the Portuguese star will feel like a bullet dodged for the north London side given what the Gunners actually need in the winter.

Whilst Felix might have been a good replacement for Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal can’t afford to overspend on a player to solve a three-month problem, with a wide-attacker and central midfielder still Arteta’s main priorities for the January window.
