Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is now reportedly ‘obsessed’ with signing England superstar Jude Bellingham, with Liverpool and Manchester City also chasing the Borussia Dortmund wonderkid.
According to the Sun, the American businessman is keen to spend big yet again on signings in the 2023 summer transfer window, with Boehly making Bellingham one of Chelsea’s main targets as the 19-year-old looks set to leave Dortmund at the end of this season.
As per the report, though, Chelsea will have to face immense competition to sign Bellingham, with Liverpool and City just two clubs who are also chasing the England international, who could leave Dortmund for as much as £130m according to Sport.
With Bellingham impressing for the Three Lions at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, another deep run in the competition could increase the midfielder’s price tag even further, with Dortmund a club that are not afraid to hold out for a big transfer fee for their star players.

Indeed, the Bundesliga side are the masters of getting the maximum profit from young talents ready to move on to bigger and better things. And for Bellingham, there is no further exception, with the midfielder expected to cost a British transfer record that was only set one year ago by Jack Grealish.
As for Chelsea, signing Bellingham is easier said than done. Whilst the Blues have the resources to bring the midfielder to Stamford Bridge, beating out the likes of Liverpool, City and even Real Madrid will be no easy task for the west London side, and it could be a battle that Boehly might have to accept he can’t win.
Chelsea the weakest Premier League side in race to sign Bellingham

Boehly might still have the same spending tendencies as former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, but it’s clear that the American is taking the Blues are another direction compared to his Russian predecessor, with the Blues now focussing on a long-term project under Graham Potter than instant results.
However, this puts Chelsea in a position where they are the weakest side out of the Premier League clubs interested in Bellingham, with the Dortmund star likely keen to move to an English side where they will be playing UEFA Champions League football and where they will make him the star of the midfield. Something the Blues might not offer.
