Chelsea are in talks to sign Southampton defender Tino Livramento amid claims a move to Newcastle United has stalled.

Tino Livramento could make a shock return to Chelsea with the Blues now in talks to re-sign the defender.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Chelsea have held initial talks about a deal for Livramento.

It’s claimed that Southampton want around £38million for Livramento and Chelsea are now weighing up a deal.

If Chelsea pull off this deal, Livramento would be sent back to Southampton to continue to his development on loan there.

A move for another right back seemed bizarre given that Chelsea already have Reece James and Malo Gusto in that area.

Livramento left Chelsea to get first-team football in 2021, completing a £5million move to Southampton.

Heading back to Chelsea would seem a little odd but the Blues would be willing to let him go back to the South Coast to carry on playing regularly.

Just where the eventual first-team chance would come is still unclear though with James and Gusto both young seemingly going nowhere.

Newcastle United could now miss out on Tino Livramento

This situation won’t be ideal for Newcastle United, who appeared to be closing in on Livramento last week.

The Telegraph claimed that Newcastle were closing in on Livramento as talks were held over a £15million deal.

That appears to have been wide of the mark though with Southampton seeking a much bigger deal.

Chelsea have a hefty sell-on clause in Livramento’s deal and Southampton don’t want to be left out of pocket.

The Chronicle even suggested that a swap deal was ‘likely’ with winger Ryan Fraser lined up to join Southampton.

However, The Telegraph now claim that Newcastle have hit a stalemate in their talks with Southampton and a deal now looks unlikely.

Livramento is understood to be ‘very keen’ on signing for Newcastle but his new destination could actually be his old home – Chelsea.

The 20-year-old must now consider what is best for his future, as he won’t want to stall at Chelsea again.
