Chelsea want Nathan Ake as they consider launching a move to re-sign the Manchester City defender despite interest from Newcastle United.
Ake started his career in his native Netherlands with ADO Den Haag and Feyenoord before being snapped up by Chelsea.
Loan spells with Reading, Watford and AFC Bournemouth didn’t take Ake any closer to first-team action at Chelsea.
The Blues sold Ake to Bournemouth in 2017 whilst holding a buy-back option, but whilst Ake thrived on the South Coast, it was Manchester City who swooped in.
City forked out a huge £41million to sign Ake two years ago but his lack of playing time means he could move on – despite Pep Guardiola calling him ‘exceptional’.

The Telegraph claim that Chelsea fancy signing Raheem Sterling, but talks with Manchester City would open up the prospect of Ake returning to West London.
It’s suggested that Chelsea are aware that City may be tempted to sell and the Blues have an interest in signing Ake.
Thomas Tuchel is understood to be a big fan of Ake and wanted to sign him for Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea have been linked with other left-footed centre backs in Josko Gvardiol and Presnel Kimpembe, so Ake could make sense for the Blues.
This comes after The Telegraph claimed earlier this month that Newcastle want Ake – but would find a deal difficult.
Eddie Howe helped get the best out of Ake at Bournemouth, so a reunion at Newcastle is appealing to the Magpies boss.
Yet with City demanding around £50million for Ake, Newcastle may not splash the cash on the 27-year-old this summer as they look to utilise their budget wisely.
That would leave Chelsea in the box seat for Ake to make a shock return to Stamford Bridge, possibly alongside teammate Sterling.
