Mason Mount says he found it ‘a bit overwhelming’ when he first trained with Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane with England, as the Chelsea star told the Lion’s Den.

The England World Cup star stated that his first training session was ‘a bit of blur’ back in 2019, with Kane being one of the senior players in the camp after he won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup.

No player in the history of the competition has won back-to-back Golden Boots, but Kane will be hoping to be the first man to do just that in Qatar.

The Three Lions captain will need the help of someone like Mount if he is to reach that goal because the Chelsea playmaker is expected to be a regular for Gareth Southgate.

But upon the eve of Mount’s first World Cup game against Iran on Monday, he spoke about training with the big boys for the first time a number of years ago.

“I can’t really remember too much about training,” said Mount. “It was literally a blur. I walked in and I am seeing the likes of Kane and all the senior players.

“It was probably a bit overwhelming at first. I just wanted to get onto the pitch and try to show what I can do and be confident, which I felt that I was.”

CAN KANE WIN THE GOLDEN BOOT AT THE 2022 WORLD CUP?

That opening game against Iran is going to be crucial because if England can get their engine going pretty quickly then it will bode well for them in their remaining two pressure-cooker group games against the USA and Wales.

Kane failed to score during the group stages of Euro 2020, so if he gets off to a similar start, then the Golden Boot will be heading elsewhere.

The likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar are rightfully being tipped to challenge him, Lautaro Martinez is another possible shout, as well as Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski.
