Chelsea are interested in Mauricio Pochettino and are seeking urgent talks with him despite his connections to rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues have shocked many by sacking Thomas Tuchel today, less than 18 months since the German won the Champions League.

Tuchel has paid the price for a shaky start to the season in which Chelsea have won just three of their six Premier League games.

Defeats at Leeds United and Southampton haven’t helped Tuchel’s cause and neither did Tuesday’s defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

The search is on for Tuchel’s successor – and there could be a sense of deja vu for the German.

Chelsea are interested in Mauricio Pochettino

The Daily Mail report that Chelsea want to speak to Mauricio Pochettino ‘as a matter of urgency’ to discuss becoming the new Blues boss.

It’s stated that Chelsea aren’t too fussed about his connections to Tottenham and ‘early moves’ to appoint the Argentinian have been made.

The Athletic add that Pochettino is open to managing Chelsea despite his history with rivals Tottenham.

The Argentinian managed Tottenham between 2014 and 2019, taking Spurs to the Champions League final whilst making them a Premier League title contender.

Tottenham fans still love Pochettino and some may hope that he would snub a move to the club’s bitter London rivals.

However, it seems that Pochettino is once again interested in replacing Tuchel.

PSG sacked Tuchel back in December 2020 and pounced to make Pochettino his replacement, so there is a sense of history reporting itself here.

The problem for Pochettino is that Chelsea have another manager in mind as they fancy appointing Graham Potter.

The Daily Mail add that Chelsea have been given permission to speak to Brighton and Hove Albion boss Potter ahead of a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

It looks like Chelsea want to speak to both Pochettino and Potter, with a straight fight emerging for the job.
