Frank Lampard, the former Chelsea and England midfielder, has emerged as the new second favourite for the Derby County manager’s job (Sky Bet).
Lampard began the day at 25/1, but is now as short as 7/4 to succeed Gary Rowett at Pride Park – with, Dean Smith, the Brentford manager and early front runner, drifting to 11/8 from 8/11.
The 39-year-old has never held an official coaching role, although he has conducted sessions for Chelsea’s Under-18s in recent months and is due to take his UEFA Pro Licence this summer (ESPN).
Lampard is the nephew of Harry Redknapp, the former director of football at Derby.
