Chelsea are reportedly winning the race to sign AS Monaco superstar Aurelien Tchouameni, with Liverpool also in the competition to land the France international.
According to AS via Sports Illustrated, the west London side ‘have an advantage’ over their Premier League rivals in signing Tchouameni this summer, with the 22-year-old set to be one of the most sought-after players in the upcoming transfer window.
Likened to Steven Gerrard and valued at a reported €60m (£50m), Tchouameni has been sensational for Monaco this season, with France manager Didier Deschamps even a huge fan of the midfielder, with the Les Bleus boss hailing the youngster as a player with ‘enormous potential’.
And this summer is set to see the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool battle it out for Tchouameni, with Real Madrid and PSG also interested in the Monaco star, who could be the next midfield phenom to come out of France.
The youngster has shone for both Monaco and France this season, and with Tchouameni now looking ready for the next step in his career, Chelsea or Liverpool could be perfect clubs for the 22-year-old midfielder.
However, given their track record, Liverpool could be a more suited club for Tchouameni, with Chelsea having a knack for spending big on top talents in Europe only for them to fall off massively when arriving at Stamford Bridge, such as former Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Liverpool must do all they can to beat Chelsea to Tchouameni
With Liverpool needing more depth in central midfield and long-term answers to the likes of Jordan Henderson and James Milner, Tchouameni could be ideal for Jurgen Klopp’s side if they can beat Chelsea to the youngster’s signature.
Indeed, Liverpool have the perfect platform for Tchouameni to succeed, and whilst Chelsea currently have the lead in the race for the Frenchman, the Merseyside giants must now do all they can to pip the Blues to the talented midfielder.
