Graham Potter’s Chelsea are competing with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur for Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier, according to journalist Simon Phillips on SI and Dan talk Chelsea substack.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Chelsea are keeping tabs on Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
Phillips said, as relayed by The Express: “A second source has now told me today that Chelsea are keeping tabs on Meslier, which tells me that our interest is more than legit.
“It does seem though that first instincts from Chelsea were Meslier is just a player they had been considering, and the collective belief is that he would not be ready/good enough for Chelsea.
“However, these things can always change, and Meslier is certainly a player that Chelsea are keeping tabs on currently.”
Chelsea are not the only London club who have their eyes on Meslier.

Tottenham have also been linked with the 22-year-old Frenchman, whose “talent is massive”, according to Leeds head coach Jesse Marsch on the club’s YouTube channel in April 2022.
In September 2022,The Athletic journalist Phil Hay said on his podcast that Tottenham are looking at Meslier as a long-term successor to Hugo Lloris.
Could Illan Meslier join Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur?
In our view, Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur could be able to sign Illan Meslier from Leeds United, but in the January transfer window.
There is no way that Leeds will sell their number one goalkeeper in the middle of the season.
However, a transfer could happen next summer if Chelsea or Tottenham are willing to pay big for the 22-year-old.
Meslier has done well for Leeds over the years, and he could be tempted to move to a bigger club such as Chelsea or Tottenham and compete at a higher level.
