Chelsea are currently focused on completing a deal for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, but they’re also keeping an eye on potential signings for the summer window.

Todd Boehly and BlueCo have often shown a preference for making their bigger moves during the summer. Last year, the club spent around £300 million on 10 players, including Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

In contrast, this month has been quiet so far in terms of spending. The only activity has been outgoings, with Leo Castledine joining Middlesbrough and Facundo Buonanotte’s loan spell coming to an end.

Things could change quickly though. Reports vary on whether Jacquet has agreed to join Chelsea, but everything seems to depend on whether they’re willing to meet the £60 million asking price.

Chelsea’s plans aren’t limited to just one signing either. The club is already looking ahead to the summer window, where they’re expected to target reinforcements in the final third of the pitch.

Julian Alvarez on Chelsea’s radar ahead of summer transfer window

Back in November, the Chelsea Chronicle reported that Julian Alvarez was considering his future at Atletico Madrid, with Chelsea named as a potential destination. Now, the Mail has provided an update on Alvarez’s situation.

The 2022 World Cup winner is set to leave this summer, and Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on him along with PSG. Both clubs appear to be planning approaches once the window opens.

Alvarez has a release clause of £435m, though Atletico are unlikely to demand the full amount. They paid Manchester City £81m for him and will almost certainly look to make a profit if they decide to sell.

What Enzo Fernandez previously said about Julian Alvarez…

If Chelsea decide to move for Alvarez, it would mean reuniting him with Enzo Fernandez, whom he came up through the ranks with at River Plate. Both players have since gone on to play at the highest level.

They were both important members of Argentina’s World Cup squad and have also won league titles and Club World Cups. Speaking in 2023 when Alvarez was still at Man City, Enzo spoke about how proud he was that they had both made it.

“It’s been a journey for us. We started out at River together so we know each other well. We are both very proud to have come to the Premier League, the best league in the world,” Enzo told Chelsea’s website.

It remains unclear whether Alvarez will seek a move away from Atletico Madrid this summer. But if Chelsea do land him, it could prove a smart bit of business – one that might even sway Enzo Fernandez away from PSG’s interest.
