Can Real Madrid afford to sign Christian Eriksen from Tottenham too?
Eden Hazard is on the verge of leaving Chelsea for Real Madrid. The Telegraph report a £130 million move has been agreed.
This is a decision which works in Tottenham’s favour, not just because they won’t have to face Hazard twice a season.
It makes Real Madrid’s pursuit of Christian Eriksen very tough, from a financial point of view.
Eriksen came out this week and told EkstraBladet he is keen on a new challenge, specifically Real.
The Sun report Tottenham are looking for £80 million for Eriksen amid interest from Real.
Unless Real can manage to shift a high earner like Gareth Bale for a decent sum, it’s going to be tough for the Spanish side to be able to afford Eriksen in addition to Hazard.
Real can wait a year and land Eriksen for free, but this gives Spurs more time to try and convince him to sign a new deal.
It also make a swap deal for a player like Isco, or even Bale, more likely for Tottenham if they do decide to sell, with Real possibly unable to fund the full fee.
By deciding to sell first, Chelsea have done Tottenham a favour.
