Lee Dixon has stated in a sarcastic fashion ‘Chelsea had an easy fixture’ against Brentford, as he warned both Tottenham and Arsenal about their forthcoming fixtures in their race to finish in the Premier League’s top-four.

The former right-back added that Arsenal and Tottenham are now battling it out for that all-important final Champions League spot, as he thinks West Ham United and Manchester United are now out of the race.

On Saturday, Chelsea, who have been sitting third in a comfortable fashion for a while, suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to Brentford.

On paper, many would have looked at the game and seen it as something they should tick off, but that wasn’t the case.

Dixon has been in these end-of-season pressured environments before, as he sent out this message to both Arsenal and Tottenham, whilst speaking on Premier League Productions (04/04/22 at 10:20 pm).

“Chelsea had an easy fixture this week, didn’t they?!” Dixon stated in a sarcastic manner. “See that’s what happens.

“If you starting going ‘oh, they are going to win that and that’. Then Chelsea-Brentford happens and everyone goes ‘oh, go back to the drawing board’.

“There are going to be so many twists and turns in all of that. All of the stuff around the top-four.

On it being a north London shootout for fourth: “It appears so, just because of the number of games West Ham have played. I still think there will be twists and turns right throughout that race. We weren’t expecting Chelsea to lose.”

Both West Ham and Manchester United still have to be considered to be part of this race, one because of the quality in their ranks and the fact that they are all due to play one another during these coming weeks.

Someone like Man United have been producing abject performances this season, but at the end of the day, it’s now all about results, regardless of how they get them.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham will feel it’s in their hands, the Gunners have a game in hand are due to play Chelsea, Man United, West Ham and Spurs, before the 2021/22 season can draw to a close.

Whilst Antonio Conte and his players, who are sitting in fourth, will feel if they can win their remaining matches, including the May 12 north London derby, then they can go into the pot for the Champions League next season.
