Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake, who was on Chelsea’s books as a teenager.
Former Chelsea youngster Nathan Ake could be on the move again this season with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly keen on the Bournemouth ace.
The Sun have recently claimed that Tottenham are plotting a £40 million bid for the 24-year-old ball playing defender and Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently lead the chase for his signature.
Chelsea signed Ake as a 16-year-old and after making a number of senior appearances for the Stamford Bridge club in between a couple of loan spells, he made a permanent transfer to Bournemouth in 2017 [BBC Sport].
There is no doubt that Ake has the potential to go to the top of the game, but it certainly wouldn’t sit well with the Chelsea faithful if a player they had on their books were to move to Spurs and succeed.
Chelsea are still under a transfer ban [BBC Sport] as they are unable, at this moment in time, to sign any players for the summer and winter transfer window.
It could even be argued that Chelsea would love a player like Ake in their team now, but rather than move to Stamford Bridge, he could be heading towards White Hart Lane this summer.
Chelsea finished above their London rivals during the recently concluded Premier League season, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Pochettino’s side finish as top dogs in London next term.
Tottenham themselves haven’t signed a player during the previous two transfer windows and a player like Ake would no doubt be a smart purchase and someone that would help them take that next step in the ladder. A scenario such as that would surely make Chelsea fans fume.
Chelsea are known to have a whole host of highly-rated youngsters on their book, but one of their sales could now come to bite them back if Ake goes on to play Champions League football and prove his worth.
