Newcastle United already have a number of centre backs, but Steve Bruce could move for another in January.
Federico Fernandez, Jamaal Lacelles, Fabian Schar and Ciaran Clark have all featured this season, but there are questions over Schar’s long-term future.
With Florian Lejeune on loan at Alaves, Bruce could bring in another centre back from January until the end of the season – and a new name is being linked.
The Telegraph report that Newcastle now want to sign Fikayo Tomori on loan from Chelsea, but face competition from teams in Europe.
Tomori rejected a loan move to West Ham United in October as he attempted to fight for his future, but he has played just 45 minutes of Premier League action – and that came in September.
The 22-year-old seems to be fifth-choice centre back at Stamford Bridge behind Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, and needs to be playing.

Newcastle could offer him that playing time, and Chelsea fans seem keen on the idea of him heading up to St James’ Park.
Some believe that playing first-team football is absolutely vital for Tomori’s development, as he is stagnating at Stamford Bridge right now.
Others think that playing for Steve Bruce in a fairly defensive setup could also really help Tomori, and don’t really understand why he’s being left out of Frank Lampard’s side because he is ‘class’.
