Chelsea are interested in a late move for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran just over a year since Liverpool were interested in signing him.

The Blues would no doubt love to add another striker before the transfer window slams shut this week.

Nicolas Jackson doesn’t seem quite ready to lead the Chelsea attack and Christopher Nkunku has sadly suffered injury problems this season.

Fans would love to see a big signing like Victor Osimhen arrive this month but that doesn’t seem likely – and Chelsea may now focus on a rather surprising target.

Chelsea want former Liverpool target Jhon Duran

HITC Football understands that Chelsea have turned their attention to Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran.

Sources indicate that Chelsea have at least discussed signing Duran and sending striker Armando Broja to Villa in exchange.

That would be a shock move and hardly a deal to leave Chelsea fans believing that their new striker is on the way to Stamford Bridge.

Duran has big talent at 20 but he hasn’t even started a single Premier League game this season; all of his 14 appearances have come off the bench.

The Colombian only joined Villa in the last January window, moving from Chicago Fire in a deal worth up to $22million (£17million).

Villa pounced to land Duran after a move to England initially looked like coming with Liverpool.

Reports from Colombia in October 2022 suggested that Liverpool were looking very closely at Duran with one eye on a potential deal.

Liverpool were looking to add Duran alongside compatriot Luis Diaz, seemingly seeing big potential in Duran after watching his MLS displays.

Liverpool missed out though as Villa swooped in to land Duran as competition and cover for star striker Ollie Watkins.

We have seen signs of Duran’s talent but even those at Villa and Liverpool will probably be surprised by Chelsea’s interest.

This move just feels too similar to signing Jackson; a young, talented striker who may be too raw to lead the line for Chelsea right now.

Chelsea may see the same potential that Liverpool did but asking him to lead the line at Stamford Bridge is a big step from the Villa bench.

We can’t see Liverpool coming back into the race for Duran right now and the Reds will watch on with intrigue if Duran lans himself a big move to West London in the coming days.
