Chelsea’s leadership team has spoken publicly to discuss the club’s future plans following a chaotic start to the year, marking a rare appearance in front of the media.
With Enzo Maresca’s unexpected departure, Chelsea wasted no time bringing in Liam Rosenior as his replacement. Now, with the managerial situation settled, the focus shifts back to on-pitch matters and planning for both the current transfer window and the summer ahead.
In terms of longer-term planning, there are elements that will excite supporters, though some decisions may also raise a few eyebrows among fans.
Chelsea eye summer move for top forward

Let’s start with what will encourage fans. Chelsea are planning to strengthen their attack with a major signing. Given their recent interest in players like Antoine Semenyo, Morgan Rogers and Kenan Yildiz, it’s hardly unexpected.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see them circle back to Rogers or Yildiz in the summer, though other opportunities could emerge by then.
Danny Windsor wrote on the SPTC Substack: “Chelsea are expected to pursue another elite attacking option this summer, which explains the earlier enquiry for Semenyo before deciding not to proceed.
“The club is also aware that it lacks physicality relative to rivals and will look to address this, without sacrificing technical quality, in upcoming windows.”
While that second point stands on its own, every name mentioned above would add something extra physically too.
Defensive moves still up in the air
Now onto the less promising reveal. Windsor continues: “Centre-back and striker remain areas of monitoring, with pathways also being considered for players already owned by the club, including Josh Acheampong, Mamadou Sarr, Aaron Anselmino, Emanuel Emegha, and Dastan Satpayev.”
Look, Acheampong, Sarr and Anselmino are all promising young defenders who will develop in the seasons to come, but this is a major red flag.
Chelsea have no issues splurging on another wide attacker/number 10 while the most glaring hole in the squad is one to ‘monitor’.
Last summer, Chelsea missed out on an elite central defender and have paid the price this season. Sure, Levi Colwill will be back for Chelsea by the end of the season but if you ask any fan – or pundit for that matter – what they see as most needed is a world-class centre-back.
The striker position is one to wait on perhaps but not centre-back. Another window of signing wide attackers who may or may not last at Stamford Bridge won’t be tolerated if they don’t also strengthen defensively.
