Chelsea managed to get past Newcastle United in the end, with Marcos Alonso scoring the winning goal.
Chelsea went into the break at 0-0 with Newcastle, with the Blues struggling to create spaces in Steve Bruce’s side’s backline.
Newcastle were well drilled throughout the contest, as they limited Chelsea’s chances.
But Lampard was encouraging his team to stay patient and keep looking for spaces at half-time, according to Zouma.
“The manager said at half-time we have to keep moving them from side to side and try to find the space in between the lines, so that is what we did, and it could have been maybe two or three goals more,” the £30 million (BBC Sport) defender said.
“But we are happy with the goal and the clean sheet as well.
“It is difficult to move this kind of block but you have to carry on and keep going and have the belief.”
Chelsea eventually got their reward in the late stages of the match, as Marcos Alonso blasted home a winner.
Chelsea’s form has been superb over recent weeks, with Lampard’s side winning four of their last five matches.
The Blues have now climbed into fourth spot in the Premier League table, and their performances have been hugely encouraging.
Lampard’s men are next in action on Wednesday, when they take on Ajax in the Champions League.
