The Blues’ lead at the top has been cut to just four points following some sensational form from Spurs.

Chelsea defender David Luiz has fired a backhanded compliment in the direction of Tottenham Hotspur by highlighting that while they’re playing well, Spurs are second as they aren’t as good as the Blues, as reports Chelsea’s official website.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been in blistering form recently, and following Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat away at Manchester United, the title race – which so many had believed was sewn up – has been blown wide open again, with Spurs just four points behind their London rivals.

Perhaps understandably with six games to go, Chelsea fans are feeling the heat a bit as a rampant Spurs have been relentless in applying pressure on Antonio Conte’s leaders, and there could still be plenty of twists and turns to go yet.

It also seems as if some of the Chelsea players are feeling the intensity a bit going by Luiz’s comments, as while it initially seemed as if he was complementing Spurs, it quickly turned into a thinly veiled dig implying they’re second best.

“Tottenham are playing very well, but also we are top of the table for a reason,” Luiz said, as reported by Chelsea’s official website.

“We still have to play a lot of football, so we need to look forward and play the next games.”

Tottenham have given the Premier League a much needed injection of interest, with many neutrals assuming the title race was done and dusted and all that was left to keep an eye on was top four and the relegation zone.

The two sides take a break from league action this weekend however, as they go head to head in the FA Cup semi-final, in what is possibly the most important clash between Chelsea and Tottenham in years.
