There is a clear transfer strategy at Chelsea to recruit young and upcoming stars but they have been forced to end their interest in one striker this summer.

The Blues have already dipped into the transfer market to add Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to their squad.

Enzo Maresca is tasked with leading this young Chelsea side back to European qualification next season after replacing Mauricio Pochettino in the managerial hotseat.

More arrivals are likely at Stamford Bridge this summer as the London outfit continue their heavy squad investment under new ownership.

One area they are focused on improving is their striker department with Nicolas Jackson needing some competition for his spot in the lineup.

However, Chelsea received a blunt response from Atletico Madrid after submitting a bid for striker Samu Omorodion.

Chelsea withdraw interest in Atletico Madrid striker Omorodion

According to The Athletic, Chelsea submitted a £27million bid for the 20-year-old forward in June.

Omorodion was one of many names on Chelsea’s striker shortlist, and the Blues went ahead and tabled an offer for the forward who scored nine goals on loan at Alaves last season.

However, Marca report that Chelsea have now pulled out of their bid to sign Omorodion this summer.

The report adds that Atletico Madrid have issued one consistent response to Chelsea’s interest – that Omorodion is not for sale this summer.

He is admired by Diego Simeone and they are counting on him to become a key figure for the club.

Simeone has previously praised the young forward in an interview with Diario AS, saying “He’s a young guy, strong, with a lot of speed and very good play in the box with his body.

“Let’s hope he does well at Alaves because he has a future with Atletico. He spent only a few days with us but he looks humble and hardworking. He will be an important player.”
