Chelsea could reportedly offer out rumoured Tottenham target Hakim Ziyech in an attempt to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who is rejected a move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

According to CalcioMercatoWeb, the Blues are contemplating making an offer to Juventus for Rabiot that would include Ziyech plus cash, with Chelsea keen to sign a midfielder in January following an injury-hit season for the likes of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho.

The proposed deal could be an issue for Tottenham, though, who according to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad is wanted by Antonio Conte as Chelsea spent all of last season trying to offload to no avail. The Blues signed the winger from Ajax for £33m in 2020, yet the Moroccan international has failed to light up the Premier League.

As a result, a January exit after the 2022 FIFA World Cup could well be on the cards for Ziyech, with Chelsea now looking to exploit Rabiot’s situation at Juventus as the French international also looks set to leave his club next year as the midfielder’s contract continues to whittle away.

Erik Ten Hag famously tried to sign Rabiot in the summer, with a deal seemingly close to completion. However, a transfer collapsed at the last second as the former PSG star remained in Turin with Juventus, where this season the Serie A side have endured one of their worst seasons in some time.

Indeed, a swap deal involving Ziyech and Rabiot makes quite a lot of sense from a neutral’s perspective. However, for Tottenham, losing out on the Chelsea star would be a big blow for Conte, who is missing that creative spark in his squad this season.

Tottenham are in desperate need for a creative player in January, and Ziyech could be the perfect answer to Conte’s problems. However, with Chelsea looking to sign Rabiot, swapping the winger for the Juventus star is not only plausible but also a move that would sting Spurs.

After all, Tottenham will have to return to square one to sign a wide-player with the technical qualities of Ziyech, and missing out on the winger to a swap deal with Juventus will sting even more for Conte given his links to the Italian powerhouses.
