Chelsea could reportedly move to sign FC Barcelona striker Memphis Depay in January, with Newcastle United and Tottenham also being linked with the Netherlands international.
According to the Evening Standard, the 28-year-old attacker is an option for Chelsea as the Blues look to sign a striker next month, with Graham Potter’s side currently very short in the position following an ACL injury to Armando Broja this month.
Chelsea are far from alone in their interest in Depay, though, with Sport recently reporting that Newcastle are in the race to sign the attacker, with the Daily Mail also reporting that Tottenham are keeping tabs on the former Manchester United superstar.
With a reported weekly wage of £159,000-a-week, Depay would be quite the financial weight to whichever club decides to sign the attacker in January. Though given how good the forward is, it could be a risk worth taking for many top sides.
Indeed, Depay will be one of the most sought-after players in January given how desperate Barcelona seem to be in offloading the attacker next month, and for the likes of Newcastle and Tottenham, this could mean losing out on the Dutch star to Chelsea.
Moreover, the Blues’ acquisition of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang earlier this year means that Chelsea have a decent relationship with Barcelona, which could mean a deal for Depay could be written up and approved in a short space of time, giving Newcastle and Tottenham almost no time to react.

Chelsea are in desperate need for a striker in January, and given everything on Depay’s profile, the Dutch attacker is perfect for what the west London club need, much to the dismay of both Newcastle and Tottenham, who could have also been ideal suitors for the Barcelona man.
It’s been five years since Depay left England, yet during that time the forward has developed into one of the best attackers in world football. And for Chelsea, signing the Dutchman would be a major sign of intent as well as a hammer blow to two of their Premier League rivals.
