Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea have now been linked with Ivan Fresneda, a player Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal tried to sign in January and are apparently still keen on.

According to ESPN, Chelsea are interested in signing Ivan Fresneda from Real Valladolid in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that Barcelona are also keen on Fresneda, adding that West Ham United are considering making a bid for the 18-year-old right-back between now and the end of the window.

ESPN has reported that Arsenal “enquired” about the teenager in the January transfer window.

Chelsea have been tracking Fresneda for some time and would have no problem paying the transfer fee of between €8 (£6.84) and 10 million (£8.55 million), according to the report.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano said on CaughtOffside this week that Arsenal “have been tracking Ivan Fresneda for a long time”.

Mundo Deportivo reported last month interest from Arsenal in signing Fresneda this summer.

Jurrien Timber is injured at the moment, and for less than £9 million, Fresneda would be a good addition to the Arsenal team.

Interestingly, Chelsea right-back Reece James has a hamstring injury at the moment.

James has had injury problems in recent years as well.

So, Fresneda, who was described as “fantastic” and “brutal” by former Valladolid head coach Pacheta in MundoDeportivo in January 2023, would be a good signing for Chelsea, especially for just £8.55 million.

And the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners would be able to afford the transfer fee needed to sign the teenager.

Fresneda made 18 starts and four substitute appearances in La Liga for Valladolid last season.
