Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are reportedly considering a bid for Paris Saint-Germain defensive midfielder Leandro Paredes.
According to The London Evening Standard, Chelsea are interested in signing Leandro Paredes from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.
The report has claimed that the Blues are considering a bid for the £149,000-a-week (SalarySport) defensive midfielder.
Chelsea are reportedly looking at Paredes as a potential alternative to Moises Caicedo.
The former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners do not want pay the £100 million transfer fee that Brighton and Hove Albion are demanding for Caicedo.
The Blues have had bids for Caicedo already rejected.
Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino worked with his Argentine compatriot Paredes at PSG and wants to bring him to Stamford Bridge, according to the report.
The London Evening Standard has reported that Paredes, who won the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Argentina, is “available at a reasonable price”.
Leandro Paredes would be a good signing for Chelsea
In our opinion, Paris Saint-Germain defensive midfielder Leandro Paredes would be a good signing for Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
First of all, Paredes is at the top of his game and is hugely experienced.
The Argentina international is 29 now and would be able to make an immediate impact at Chelsea.
Not only would Paredes help Chelsea finish in the Premier League top four next season, but his extensive experience of playing in the UEFA Champions League would also help the Blues in Europe in the coming years.
Secondly, Pochettino worked with Paredes at PSG and knows the strengths and weaknesses of the defensive midfielder.
So, the Chelsea boss would know exactly how to use Paredes, who spent last season on loan at Juventus from PSG.
Thirdly, as The London Evening Standard notes, Paredes would not cost a lot of money in transfer fees for Chelsea.
