Chelsea and Inter Milan are reportedly closing in on agreeing a fee for Romelu Lukaku, with the Italian side getting closer to hitting the fee that the West London side have desired for the Belgian international.
That’s according to Talksport who claim, following Inter’s second bid of around £25 million plus add-ons for Lukaku, that there is a willingness for an agreement to be struck on both sides.
Lukaku has been keeping away from Chelsea’s Cobham training ground in the hopes that the two clubs could reach an agreement on a fee, according to The Telegraph.
It now seems that the two clubs are edging closer to an agreement on a fee for the forward who Chelsea signed for £97 million in 2021, before they loaned the forward to the Italian side last season, following a disappointing first season in London.
Lukaku close to returning to Inter for a third time
The Belgian forward looks set to return to Italy for a third time. After a poor second season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, Lukaku left for Antonio Conte’s Inter. The 30-year-old was incredibly successful with Conte, he scored 47 goals in just 73 Serie A appearances, before making the big-money move to Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.
After a good start in West London, in particular, a brilliant performance against Arsenal at the Emirates, things turned sour for Lukaku. A hugely controversial Sky Italy interview, where he seemed to suggest he wasn’t happy at Chelsea, was seemingly the nail in the coffin for Lukaku at Chelsea.
Chelsea then loaned the Italian forward back to Italy, where Lukaku netted 10 times in Serie A and a further three times in the UEFA Champions League as Inter reached the final.
Despite Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino seemingly being open to working with Lukaku, it seems that the forward is set to return to the San Siro for the third time.
