Chelsea are closing in on yet another signing this summer, targeting young Barcelona forward Marc Guiu.

HITC have reported that Chelsea are confident of completing the signing of Barcelona forward Marc Guiu, who has so far refused to sign a new contract at the Camp Nou.

Multiple top European clubs have been made aware of Guiu’s availability with a fee in the region of £5 million potentially enough to land the Spaniard, but it is Chelsea who believe they are the favourites.

Barcelona are frustrated that Guiu, who made seven first-team appearances last season, has so far rebuffed their attempts to tie him down to a new deal.

Chelsea are confident they will get a deal over the line, and in doing so, they would be making up for an early transfer miss this summer.

Marc Guiu has high potential

Marc Guiu, 18, made seven appearances for the first team under Xavi Hernandez and he looked promising during these cameos.

Guiu netted just 23 seconds into his debut against Athletic Bilbao by rounding Unai Simon, and he looks to have the potential to become a prolific number nine.

La Masia’s youth academy is famed for bringing in technically gifted midfielders like Pedri or Gavi or superb wingers like Lamine Yamal, but strikers are a rarity.

Guiu stands at 6 foot two inches tall and certainly has the stature to be a top class forward. At just £5 million, he represents something of a steal for the Blues.

Guiu compared to Chelsea target Benjamin Sesko

For Chelsea, HITC understands that the potential signing of Guiu will not deter the club from signing another forward this summer. Guiu, however, could well be a superb signing in his own right.

Earlier this year ESPN stated that some at Barcelona believe the Spaniard can be compared to RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in terms of style and physique.

Sesko was heavily linked with Europe’s top clubs including Arsenal, and indeed Chelsea earlier this summer, but the Slovenian forward opted to stay at the Bundesliga club.

If Chelsea pull off this signing, they could well have their own version of Sesko and for a pittance, a tenth of the price of the Slovenian, as the club prepare for life under Argentine manager Enzo Maresca.
