- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Sources have confirmed to HITC that Chelsea and Newcastle United both hold an interest in Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez.
The La Liga legend has already announced that he will depart the Spanish club at the end of the season.
But HITC understands Barcelona believe that Xavi Hernandez could yet decide to stay as head coach.
Barca are working on potential replacements this summer, with German duo Hansi Flick and Julian Nagelsmann of particular interest, along with Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi.
Xavi’s situation is an interesting one – HITC understands that if, as expected, the 44-year-old is available, then there is genuine interest in the Premier League with the top brass of Chelsea and Newcastle United both admirers of the Spanish legend.

Pressure on Mauricio Pochettino and Eddie Howe amid Xavi Hernandez interest
Both Chelsea and Newcastle United have managers in place in Mauricio Pochettino and Eddie Howe.
But both are under increasing pressure and neither are guaranteed their long-term futures and the final weeks of the season will dictate their futures.
Chelsea were beaten in the League Cup final in February by Liverpool and will visit Wembley again ahead of their FA Cup semi-final clash against Manchester City.
But, their form in the Premier League isn’t anything to shout about and they are sitting 11th in the table.
On the other hand, Newcastle are one place and one point ahead of the London club, but they have played a game more.
Chelsea, who have been linked with Sporting’s Ruben Amorim amongst others, and Newcastle, who HITC revealed were considering Roberto Mancini, are now both looking closely at Xavi’s situation.
