Chelsea and Liverpool target Gabri Veiga’s future may become clear soon, with clubs believing that they can sign the 21-year-old midfielder for below his release clause of £34 million.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano’s exclusive column in CaughtOffside where he claims that Liverpool and Manchester City, despite being interested in the Spanish midfielder, are not at the front of the queue for his signature.
This could open the door for Chelsea, who have been strongly linked with the Celta Vigo midfielder.
City are believed to be focusing their attention on RB Leipzig’s defender Josko Gvardiol and after Liverpool signed Dominik Szoboszlai, their attention has turned elsewhere.
Chelsea and Liverpool stance on Gabri Veiga
Writing in his column, Romano noted: “The Gabri Veiga saga could also get interesting, with Chelsea and many other clubs following his situation, though still no official bids have been sent to Celta.

“I’m told clubs feel they can make a deal work with bids below the player’s €40m release clause now. For now, there doesn’t appear to be a clear preference from the player but really many clubs have looked into it including big names in the Premier League.
“Chelsea are one of them, and there’s also been interest from Man City (who are now focused on Josko Gvardiol), and also Liverpool showed an interest a few weeks ago but are now focused on different players.”
The midfielder was exceptional in La Liga last season, with 11 goals and four assists from midfield.
The youngster has been touted across Europe due to his talent and his superb goalscoring abilities from midfield.
Recently, PSG registered their interest.
The Guardian claimed that the French club, now managed by Luis Enrique, were pushing hard for the midfielder’s signature.
For Chelsea, signing Veiga could well be important as they aim to close the gap to the top four. After losing Mason Mount to Manchester United for £55 million, the goalscoring midfielder would represent an exciting addition at Stamford Bridge under Chelsea’s new boss, Mauricio Pochettino.
