Chelsea have reportedly already lined up a replacement for AC Milan-bound Fernando Torres, with the club said to have activated the buy-out clause in Loic Remy’s QPR contract.
Just hours after announcing Fernando Torres’s departure to AC Milan on a two-year loan deal, Chelsea have reportedly agreed the signing of Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the club have activated the French international’s €10M release clause, with a deal all but done to give the Blues an immediate replacement for the Spaniard.
Remy, 27, was previously close to sealing an £8.5 million move to Liverpool in July, with the club meeting his buy-out clause, but the deal collapsed at the last minute due to a failed medical.
After scoring 14 goals in 26 league games on loan at Newcastle United last season, a return to the north east was also rumoured, but the former Marseille man’s desire to taste Champions League football saw a permanent switch fail to materialise.
In addition, with Arsene Wenger said to be a long-time admirer, a transfer to Arsenal looked to be on the cards following Olivier Giroud’s long-term leg injury, but QPR manager Harry Redknapp affirmed earlier this week that there had been no contact from the Gunners.
Set to join £32 million Diego Costa and club legend Didier Drogba as striker options at Stamford Bridge, Remy’s arrival would complete a drastic summer overhaul of Chelsea’s frontline, which as seen Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o, Romelu Lukaku and now Torres all leave North London.
