Bruno Guimaraes has posted on Instagram after the Newcastle United midfielder confirms he suffered an injury in his side’s late 1-0 win over Fulham at St. James’ Park on Sunday – and Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has responded.
Newcastle clocked up a fifth consecutive clean sheet in the Premier League on Sunday, as Alex Isak climbed off the bench to head home the winner. A crucial win, that keeps Newcastle in third and just a point behind Manchester City.
But The Toon suffered a big injury blow. Brazil star Guimaraes, 25, rolled his ankle in the first half. He soldiered on, but at half-time he was in tears as the players trudged off the pitch. He was replaced at the break, by Allan Saint-Maximin.
Following the win, Guimaraes took to Instagram. He stated that he is “very sad” about the ankle injury he picked up in Sunday’s 1-0 win and is hopeful it is nothing serious. Indeed, Newcastle will hope to have their fan favourite back soon.
Guimaraes posts on Instagram, Chelsea defender Silva responds
The player hobbled away from the ground on Sunday evening after the injury, on crutches – as per The Mail. Newcastle are next in action on Saturday, an evening trip to London to take on Crystal Palace. A game they will be favourites for.
However, without Guimaraes in the side, Newcastle are a weaker force. He is the conductor, the orchestrator, at the base of the Toon midfield. With Jonjo Shelvey already injured, it remains to be seen who could come in to replace him.
But as things stand, it looks as if Newcastle could be without the ex-Lyon man for a couple of weeks. Clearly saddened by the situation, his post saw plenty respond. That included World Cup teammate and Chelsea star Silva on Sunday.
