Chelsea ace Cesar Azpilicueta makes Tottenham transfer claim, praises Spurs trio

Cesar Azpilicueta has applauded Tottenham for getting their work done in the transfer window before pre-season on the Sky Sports Football podcast – and was full of praise for Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski.

Tottenham and Chelsea go head to head at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon. Chelsea have an excellent record in West London, but Tottenham look better than ever – after a full pre-season under Antonio Conte.

Spurs have spent well over £100million on six new players. Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster have come in for free, Clement Lenglet on loan, Richarlison for £60million, Djed Spence for £20million and Yves Bissouma for £30million.

Other than Spence and Lenglet, the four deals were done before pre-season. Spence and Lenglet were done just before and during the tour of South Korea. Indeed, Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici have been heavily praised.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash, Azpilicueta was full of praise for the early work Tottenham have done in the window. He also praised Tottenham’s front three of Kane, Son and Kulusevski – stating the “numbers” are proof of their quality.

“When you play against Tottenham, you want to win. We know it is going to be tough. They have got all their transfers done early before pre-season. We know Antonio very well, how he prepares. We have to be ready.

“They [Kane, Kulusevski, Son] are quality players, the numbers are there, they score goals and create chances. They work well together, they are organised, they are try to exploit the strengths of their team,” Azpilicueta said.

It has been a brilliant window for Tottenham. Getting Richarlison and Bissouma are fantastic bits of business. Even though they were expensive, signing them before the trip to South Korea is a sign Levy is giving Conte the cash.

Lenglet provides much-needed competition for Ben Davies. Forster is an astute addition in goal. Ivan Perisic is a player Conte knows well, can play in multiple positions and still has plenty of running left in his legs.

Spence will add some much-needed quality on the right. It would be no surprise to see him overtake Emerson Royal before the end of the season. Destiny Udogie is also being linked, and Spurs are still very active.
