Nottingham Forest beat Millwall 1-0 on Friday evening, with ex-Rangers winger Barrie McKay starring.

Nottingham Forest’s season got off to the perfect start on Friday evening as they defeated Millwall 1-0 at the City Ground thanks to Barrie McKay’s stunning winner.

Mark Warburton managed to keep Forest up at the end of last season, and whilst he has lost star striker Britt Assombalonga to Middlesbrough, the Forest boss will have been hoping for a strong start to the new Championship campaign.

Newly-promoted Millwall were the visitors to the City Ground on Friday night, and Neil Harris’ men were undone by a piece of brilliance from winger Barrie McKay in the first half.

The Scottish wide man, signed from Rangers over the summer, picked the ball up on the left touchline, danced past two defenders and cut inside to unleash a superb long-range strike in off the post for his first Forest goal.

That proved to be the winning goal, with winger McKay unsurprisingly catching the eye as he made a virtually ideal start to his life in English football and at the City Ground.

The 22-year-old winger flourished under Warburton at Rangers, but was deemed surplus to requirements at Ibrox by Warburton’s successor Pedro Caixinha, who flogged McKay to Forest in a cut-price deal.

Already, McKay is delighting Forest fans, who took to Twitter during and after Friday’s game in order to praise the wide man, admitting the was very impressive and has the ability to become a game changer for Forest.

Others thanked Rangers for allowing McKay to make his bargain move to the City Ground, with some backing McKay for a future in the Premier League having dazzled fans so much against Millwall on Friday night.
