Remember the time reports emerged suggesting Eden Hazard was so embarrassed by his performance during Belgium’s defeat to Argentina at the 2014 World Cup that he tried to get all record of it removed from the internet (L’Avenir).

Well, Simeon Nwankwo might be tempted to look into those ‘Right to be Forgotten’ laws himself, as the Crotone striker emerges as a summer target for Tottenham Hotspur.

Fabio Paratici has certainly made good use of his Serie A connections since swapping Turin for North London.

According to the Telegraph, Tottenham’s new talent-spotter is hot on the heels of a man who outscored Lorenzo Insigne, Lautaro Martinez, Duvan Zapata and Andrea Belotti last term, despite finishing the campaign in the relegation zone.

But, as Spurs supporters scour the web for every nugget of information about a man who could take Carlos Vinicius’s place as the club’s number two striker, it won’t be long before they realise that Simy has a place in his heart for another London giant.

Yes, – that one.

Will an Arsenal-supporting striker join Tottenham?

“I was cheering for Arsenal,” said the 6ft 6ins Nigeria international, recalling his childhood days as a fanatical Gunners supporter. “Because Kanu was playing there.”

At the age of 29, and having spent much of his career in the lower leagues of Italy and Portugal, Simy’s affection for all things Arsenal will probably count for little if Tottenham come calling.

The late-blooming centre-forward might never get a better chance to move to the Premier League and, after finding the net 20 times last season in Serie A, his stock has never been higher.

Simy is in no position to turn down an opportunity that may never come around again.

“If Simy wants to move to England, he should not join Brighton,” former Nigeria ace Christian Obodo said back in May after the £6 million-rated goal-machine had been linked with a switch to Graham Potter’s side.

“He should go somewhere like Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur, the big teams.”

It seems that one of those ‘big teams’ is now willing to make a move of their own. Just not the one Simy might have been dreaming of.
