Kevin Campbell told the Highbury Squad Podcast that Arsenal fans are blaming Willian for ‘everything’.
The Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit admitted that Willian is having a ‘nightmare’ of a time in North London.
Since his free transfer from Chelsea in the summer, and that encouraging debut against Fulham, it has gone downhill since then for the versatile attacker.
But Campbell urged the Arsenal fans to ‘check yourselves’ and back the player during this difficult period.
“Why do a lot of Arsenal fans blame Willian for everything?” asked Campbell. “He’s not having a bad time. He’s having a nightmare.
“Yet all I see or hear is him being blamed for everything. He’s having a nightmare, yes he is. He’s not having a great time. I don’t see many, I know some do, talk about putting the boot in when the man’s down.
“How about giving him support? Like a good fanbase should. Yes, we understand that he’s not playing great. But that’s when he needs the help.
“Don’t you think he needs a little bit of support? Talk about putting the boot in… I find it very difficult to do. So, check yourselves.”

It doesn’t help Willian’s cause that he is coming towards the end of his career and arrived from Arsenal’s London rivals.
In recent years, Arsenal have made a bad habit of signing Chelsea’s players that are coming towards the end of their careers.
Arsenal will lock horns against Tottenham next month, and if Willian scores the winning goal during that game, then all may well be forgiven.
