Speaking on the Where’s Jeff? Podcast, Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas has claimed Manchester City should move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rather than Harry Kane.
It’s no secret that City have been after Kane all summer long, and it’s also been clear that it won’t be easy for them to sign the striker.
The Premier League champions need a new number nine, and while Kane may not be attainable, Nicholas believes they could land a player like Aubameyang.
What’s been said?
Nicholas was speaking about the Kane situation and offered up Aubameyang as a potential alternative.
“They could go for someone like Aubameyang. It looks like something is going wrong at Arsenal at the moment, and we do know Aubameyang scores goals, he’s got pace and he’s got movement. I prefer him on the left, but I could see something like that materialise, it gives Manchester City a cheaper option. He’s not as good as Kane, but he’s as good a finisher as Kane,” Nicholas said.

Unlikely, but a good option
The idea of City signing Aubameyang is very interesting, but it’s fair to say it’s unlikely.
Aubameyang is 31, on massive money and is Arsenal’s captain, it’s hard to imagine many clubs looking at him as a potential option this window, and it’s even harder to envisage the Gunners selling him for anything other than a big fee.
Aubameyang would score plenty in City’s team but is likely just a pipe dream.
