Garth Crooks named Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson in his team of the week on BBC Sport after the Englishman’s performance against West Ham on Saturday.

The Reds were made to work hard by David Moyes’ side at Anfield. West Ham took the lead early in the game thanks to a goal from Pablo Fornals, but a controversial penalty brought Liverpool back into the game before the break.

Diogo Jota crushed West Ham hearts by scoring the winner for Liverpool in the 85th minute. The win took Jurgen Klopp’s men to the top of the Premier League table, but Salah has come under a lot of criticism for his alleged dive.

Crooks has had his say about the incident. The former Manchester United and Tottenham man claims that, although Arthur Masuaku made contact with Salah, it was not enough for the Liverpool man to go down the way he did.

The BBC pundit has urged skipper Henderson to have a ‘gentle word’ with the Egyptian to remind him not to ruin his Liverpool legacy with ‘cheap nonsense like diving’.

Crooks: Salah will spoil his legacy if he continues diving

He said: “I didn’t think it was a Liverpool penalty at the time and I still don’t. I have criticised Mohamed Salah in the past for going down in the box when not touched. I’ve no doubt contact was made by West Ham’s Arthur Masuaku but as far as contact sports go, that was no foul.”

“However it’s the referee’s opinion that counts and Kevin Friend thought otherwise.

“I wonder if Henderson might have a gentle word with Salah to remind him that he has placed himself among the Liverpool greats – and not to spoil it with cheap nonsense like diving.”

Masuaku caught Salah on his ankle and the Egyptian had every right to go down. However, the way he exaggerated his fall annoyed a lot of people, and he has been heavily criticised as a result.
