Chris Sutton has told The Daily Mail that he is surprised that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are about to sign Jorginho from Graham Potter’s Chelsea on January transfer deadline day.

The former Chelsea striker believes that Jorginho would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal on the final day of the January transfer window.

The BBC Sport pundit is surprised that Chelsea are helping their London and Premier League rivals Chelsea by sending Jorginho to the Emirates Stadium.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that the Italy international midfielder is on the verge of leaving Chelsea for London and Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Chris Sutton on Arsenal signing Jorginho from Chelsea

Sutton said: “I’m surprised he’s gone to Arsenal and Chelsea are helping Arsenal.

“I think, from Arsenal’s point of view, he may be the signing which helps him win the Premier League. I think that he’s a really talented player.

“This looks like a compromise because they’re saying ‘we’re not going to get Moises Caicedo and we’re not going to get Declan Rice in this window’. At 31 it’s a good piece of business, for £10m or £12m it’s cheap as chips.

“From Arsenal’s point of view, that’s a 10. I I really think that’s a no brainer and a smart piece of business.”

Brilliant signing for the Gunners

In our view, Jorginho is a very good signing for Arsenal and will enhance the chances of the North London clubs winning the Premier League title this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side are in a great position to win the title this campaign.

And a player of Jorginho’s quality and experience is only going to help Arsenal in their quest to become the champions of England.

Yes, he is 31 now, but that does not mean that the Chelsea midfielder is past his prime.

It was not so long ago when Jorginho was playing a big role for Italy in their Euro 2020 success.

And let’s not forget that the Italian is also a UEFA Champions League winner with Chelsea.
