A number of Championship and League One clubs are weighing up a move for Macclesfield Town forward Harry Smith, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Smith has caught the eye in recent weeks for Macclesfield with the big target man excelling under Sol Campbell at the League Two club.

The 23-year-old has scored two goals in his last five games to help boost Macclesfield’s survival hopes.

Smith has become a mainstay in Campbell’s starting XI since taking over at Moss Rose at the end of November and his form has helped Macclesfield win four of their last eight games.

The 6ft,5in forward’s performances have not gone unnoticed higher up the football pyramid with several Championship and League One clubs keeping tabs on Smith’s progress at Macclesfield.

Smith joined the club in the summer on a one-year deal after leaving Millwall in search of regular first-team football.

The powerful forward found his first-team chances limited at Millwall, but he still managed to score six goals in 12 appearances, including a memorable hat-trick in a FA Cup win over Braintree Town in December 2016.

Macclesfield would be reluctant to lose Smith during this month’s transfer window, but with the player entering the final six months of his contract, they are bracing themselves for bids for the hit-man.
