Newcastle United star Jamaal Lascelles is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and one can understand why Everton, Liverpool and West Ham United are (reportedly) interested in the former Nottingham Forest man.

The Independent has reported that Liverpool want to sign Lascelles in the summer transfer window, while The London Evening Standard has credited Chelsea with interest in the former Forest defender.

According to The Mirror, Everton are planning a £25 million move for the 24-year-old centre-back, while The Sun has reported that West Ham are plotting a £15m move for Lascelles.

Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley has praised the development of the former England Under-21 international under manager Rafael Benitez, and his comments underline just why there is so much interest in Lascelles.

Charnley told The Daily Mail: “What Rafa has certainly done is improve the group of players on a whole. I look at Jamaal Lascelles from when he came in and he’s made huge strides.”

Keep Jamaal Lascelles

For Newcastle to progress as a club and do well on the football pitch, they need to retain the services of Lascelles, who earns £40,000 per week as salary according to Spotrac.com.

The former Forest star is a leader at the back for Newcastle, and his improvement and maturity as a footballer under Benitez over the past couple of seasons have been remarkable.
