Rangers have been linked with a move for the £2million-rated striker, but Huddersfield are winning the race.
Charlton Athletic head of recruitment Steve Gallen has admitted to Love Sport Radio that the League One side are already preparing for life without star striker Karlan Grant, amid links to Scottish Premiership side Rangers and Huddersfield Town.
The Sun has reported that Huddersfield Town are closing in on a £2million move to sign the 21-year-old striker, as he continues his impressive form in the third tier of English football.
The Scottish Sun had previously claimed that Rangers were interested in the Charlton academy product, who has earned four England Under-18 caps during his time at The Valley.
Head of recruitment Gallen has admitted that Charlton are already planning for life without their star striker, who has amassed 14 goals in 28 League One appearances this season.
“As reported, Huddersfield are very, very keen on Karlan,” Gallen said. “But we’re very keen on him too. We have not wanted him to go from the first minute. That’ll be the case until the last minute.
“That will be right up until the end of his contract, whether that is this week or in the summer. If Karlan does leave, we’ll look to sign a player that has pace, can run in behind and score goals. We may well need someone.”
Rangers have signed Jermain Defoe this month on an 18-month loan period from Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth, meaning Steven Gerrard has three strikers at his disposal in Alfredo Morelos, Kyle Lafferty and Defoe.
Grant is out of contract at the end of the season and the likelihood is that he will leave at some point in the next six months, whether that will be Huddersfield or another club remains to be seen.
